Commercial Litigation

(Contact: Teresa Ruiz Schober)

"Litigation: a machine which you go into as a pig, and come out of as a sausage."
     -Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary

Unfortunately, we tend to agree with Mr. Bierce's assessment. Litigation is often a losing proposition for everyone involved. Resort to the courts is a powerful tool, but it is not the only way to resolve a dispute. Too often, we have encountered attorneys who are in a rush to file a lawsuit, or who polarize the litigants by taking outlandish positions. Usually, this strategy benefits no one but the lawyer, and ends up making sausage out of the client.

At Bartlett & Schober, we never lose sight of our objective: To achieve the best overall result possible for our clients. Sometimes that means taking an aggressive position and going straight to trial. But other times, it means seeking an early mediation, or reaching out to the other side to explore settlement possibilities. By remaining open to all of the alternatives, we win many of our cases without ever setting foot in the courtroom.
